MATT SHERRINGTON

F R E E L A N C E    P E R F E C T I O N

So, I am Matt Sherrington born and raised in the midlands but by no means tied too the midlands as you will soon realise. I was raised in a small town on the outskirts of Birmingham. Had a normal upbringing, parents together, food on the table, school/trips, holidays, afterschool clubs and gifts.

We didn’t have money though. My dad spent majority of his time working to earn and provide for us, extremely long hours, hard labour and working away from home a lot of the time. One of the lessons he taught me, work for what you want!

At 45 my mum would return to university after raising three kids, going from helping for a couple of hours a week listening to kids read to teaching teachers with an award named after her. The hours, days, nights spent learning, on courses doing exams and helping others struggling along the way even when it got hard. Unfortunately, it was a short career after becoming qualified as she passed a couple of years later when I became a teenager

Whilst it was a blow in life, I cannot and do not use it as an excuse though, life continues however it did change my outlook on a lot of things some good, some bad, some good choices and some bad paths, but I am grateful for the life experience I’ve gained from it, work and personal.

I was not interested in the academic stuff at school, I didn’t see much point, I just wanted to work, earn some money start enjoying myself. So that’s what I did, working on the market whilst still at school, setting up my first business at 17. Business at 17 was hard and that’s not changed with age. It is a brutal world and a world that is always teaching you something.

I’ve spent the majority of the past 2 decades working for myself on a self-employed basis but have worked and will work for certain companies and organizations from time to time on an employed or sub-contractor basis depending on if the project is right for me at the time.

I’m not afraid to work quite the opposite in fact and find myself completing a variety of work, projects, one of a kind builds and products and always looking to expand my knowledge and experience, some types of things I’ve been involved with over the years range from

Complete decorating works of highways agency building to public house renovations

What I’m about!

What I’ve done!

What I can do for you!

Whilst I spent a lot of the time on the road for work, I struggled to find the work life balance until a couple of years ago when recovering from an ankle injury, I had to readjust and reset

Now to unwind you will find me on adventure somewhere, hiking Yr Wyddfa, walking the southwest coastal path, jumping out of a perfectly good aeroplane at 15 000ft, climbing ben Nevis, Swimming in a river, majority of the time I’m outdoors somewhere doing something. My favourite place to reset is when I am walking my dog through a forest at dusk as it goes dark and the birds go quiet, so peaceful. 9 times out of 10 ill have my camera and drone with me to capture and document my adventures.

Life’s not easy but I am grateful for what I have got and what I do. I’m incredibly lucky to be able to live the life I do, have the experiences I’ve had, and I’ve met some absolute amazing characters along the way, some became great friends, some remain good acquaintances.
